Always the perpetual foreigner. Always “the other.”

Article: NJ Residents Receive Anti-Immigration School Board Ads

Remember the White Nationalists at Charlottesville were chanting “you will not replace us!”

Also remember that it has been said many times that “Make America Great Again” is code for make it White again. By White Nationalists.

“Othering” is a type of racist phenomena experienced by Asian Americans, as the “perpetual foreigner” even though we could have been born here, be naturalized citizens, and would want to participate in local government like Jerry Shi and Falguni Patel.

Don’t gloss over the layers of racist messaging here. Deport? To where? I was born here. Chinese and Indian schools in your community are un-great? Why? Because they aren’t celebrating the heritage of European colonialism? And cricket was brought to India by European colonialism by the way. And another by-the-way – the infrastructure of my country of origin (because I’m an American born here in America) was built by Asian laborers. The technological, scientific, and medical innovations that are the heart of American ingenuity are also built on the work of Asian immigrants like my parents who came after 1965, when the most racist and discriminatory aspects of the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 were finally relegislated. There is no America as we know it without Asians (read The Making of Asian America by Erika Lee).

But of course, I’m the problem because I talk about racism. I’ll stop when there’s no more racism.
